Cervical cancer prevention

HPV in general

The HPV virus, or human papillomavirus, is one of the most common viruses that infect humans. It is estimated that even more than 80% of sexually active people may be infected with this virus during their lifetime. It is transmitted mainly sexually, during sexual contact.

HPV infection can lead to genital warts, called genital warts.

There are also many types of HPV, some of which can be highly oncogenic and lead to the development of cervical cancer. The most dangerous types are HPV 16, 18 and 31, which are responsible for the majority of cervical cancers. Low-risk HPV infection, such as HPV 6 and HPV 11, can cause harmless skin lesions on the genitals. They can be removed with special preparations or laser treatments. It is important to have regular pap smear tests and vaccination against HPV to prevent serious consequences of infection.

Test HPV

To perform an HPV test, a sample of cells is taken from the cervix using a special swab. This sample is sent for laboratory testing, where it is analyzed for the presence of HPV. These tests are painless and fast.

At our HealthyMed medical clinic, we provide our patients with the highest quality preventive care in the field of cervical cancer. We perform HPV tests and offer preventive vaccinations. Persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a major cause of cervical cancer development.

Here are some important things to know about HPV and cervical cancer screening:

  • Most women will be infected with HPV at some point in their lives.
  • Cervical cancer develops when HPV infection persists for a long time.
  • The tests we perform allow for early detection of abnormal cellular changes on the cervix that result from a persistent high-risk HPV infection.
  • A combination of HPV tests and Pap smear tests can almost 100% confirm that a patient does not have cervical cancer.
  • Knowing your HPV status helps you and your doctor determine how often you need to screen them. Early detection of precancerous lesions is crucial in the prevention of cervical cancer.
  • HPV status is not an indicator of the sexual behavior of the patient or her partner. HPV can remain dormant in cervical cells for many years before the infection is activated.

HPV vaccination

At our HealthyMed gynecological clinic, we offer state-of-the-art HPV vaccinations, including the Gardasil 9 vaccination. Gardasil 9 contains strains of HPV that are responsible for most cases of cervical cancer and related cellular changes. This vaccination is an effective form of protection against HPV infection and the development of cervical cancer. The Gardasil 9 vaccination procedure consists of administering 3 series of injections, which contain fragments of the HPV protein. Once vaccinated, the body develops immunity to these strains of the virus, which reduces the risk of infection and the development of cervical cancer. Gardasil 9 vaccination is recommended especially for young women before sexual activity, but it can also be used in women at a later age. Our trained medical staff is at your disposal to answer any questions you may have about the Gardasil 9 vaccination and to provide expert care during the vaccination process. We invite you to our HealthyMed clinic, where we offer comprehensive services in the field of prevention and treatment of cervical cancer, including effective vaccination against HPV, in accordance with the latest medical standards. Taking care of the health and safety of our patients is our priority.

Cytology

At our HealthyMed gynecological clinic, we offer the latest diagnostic methods, such as LBC (Liquid-Based Cytology), which is an effective tool in detecting cellular abnormalities on the cervix. LBC cytology involves taking a sample of cells from the cervix with a special brush and then transferring them to a preservative fluid. Preparation for LBC cytology is relatively simple and does not require any special restrictions. Here are some tips for preparing for this study:

  1. Avoid using vaginal contraceptives, creams, gels, or other intimate hygiene substances for at least 24 hours before the test.
  2. These substances can affect the results of the test.
  3. Avoid using tampons, vaginal rinses and sexual intercourse for at least 24 hours before the test. It is best to wash before visiting the doctor, but do not use any special intimate hygiene products.
